Plants Are The Last Thing We Think About

That sounds backward until the second season. Grade decides where water sits, soil decides whether roots ever leave the hole they arrived in, and everything visible above depends on both. We correct those first, then plant into ground that will actually support growth, which is why our installations still look intentional years later. Grading and Drainage Correction

Water problems get solved before anything is planted. Regrading, swales, and drainage lines move runoff away from foundations and out of the low corners where standing water has been killing whatever was planted there. Nothing gets planted into a wet corner.

Bed Construction and Soil Preparation

Beds are cut to their finished shape, weeds removed, compacted ground loosened, and soil amended with compost or peat. That preparation is the single largest factor in whether new planting establishes or merely survives. Depth of preparation shows up in year three.

Specimen Tree Installation

Larger trees set the structure of a property for decades. Species, mature size, and placement are chosen against sun exposure, root spread, and how the canopy will relate to the house long after installation day. Root spread is checked against paving.

Layered Shrub and Perennial Planting

Evergreen structure, deciduous form, and perennial color are combined so beds hold interest across all four seasons. Spacing follows mature size rather than the temptation to make a bed look full immediately. Beds fill correctly instead of needing thinning later on.

Sod Installation

Bermuda, Zoysia, and Fescue each suit different exposures here. Ground is cleared, leveled, loosened, and amended, then sod is cut on site and laid with staggered seams and edges pressed tight against paving and beds. Watering guidance follows on the day.

Mulching and Bed Edging

A defined edge and consistent mulch depth hold moisture, suppress weeds, and make a property look maintained. Edges are cut clean so beds keep their shape rather than blurring into the lawn within one season. Depth is kept consistent throughout.

Assessing Soil, Sun, and Water

Every property is read before anything is specified. Where water arrives and leaves, which areas hold shade through the day, and how compacted the ground actually is all determine what can succeed where. Nothing gets specified before that reading is done.

Correcting Grade First

Earth moving happens while access is open and nothing planted is at risk. Establishing finished contours early means drainage, beds, and turf areas are all working from the same set of levels. Moving earth later means undoing finished planting to reach it.

Setting Trees and Large Material

Heavy stock goes in while machinery can still reach it. Positioning is checked from inside the house and from the street before anything is planted, because a specimen tree is not a decision you revisit. Access routes are planned around it.

Planting Shrubs, Perennials, and Turf

Smaller material fills in around the established structure, then sod is laid across prepared ground. Working downward in scale keeps foot traffic and equipment off the areas already completed behind us. Sod goes down last so nothing crosses it afterward at all.

Mulching, Edging, and Watering In

Beds are mulched to consistent depth, edges cut, and everything watered in thoroughly. You then get clear instruction on the watering schedule that carries new planting and sod through establishment. That first month of watering decides everything. Nothing else matters as much.

WHERE WE INSTALL

New Builds, Bare Lots, And Yards Ready For Rework

Two properties send us most of this work. The first is a newly finished house handed over with compacted subsoil, no topsoil worth the name, and a builder grade that pushes water toward the foundation. The second is an established property where the original planting has outgrown itself and the beds no longer read. We install across Fort Mill, Tega Cay, and Lake Wylie in South Carolina and Charlotte, Weddington, Davidson, and Huntersville in North Carolina, and both situations start with soil and grade.
