Firebox materials, ventilation, and clearance are not places to improvise, and neither is the footing under several tons of stone. We build these features the way the materials require, then finish them so they look like they belong to the terrace rather than sitting on it. Masonry Fire Pits

An open pit puts people in a circle, which is exactly why it stays the most requested feature. Heat-rated inner construction, a stone or block outer face, and drainage below keep the structure sound through years of use.

Built-In Outdoor Fireplaces

A vertical firebox with a chimney draws smoke up and away instead of across the seating. The mass anchors one side of a terrace, creating a defined outdoor room that feels enclosed without needing walls. It also blocks prevailing wind on that side.

Gas Fire Features

Instant ignition, adjustable output, and no ash to clear suit households that want fire on a weeknight. Supply routing and testing are coordinated in advance so the burner assembly is fed correctly from the start. Ash never enters the conversation again.

Wood-Burning Configurations

Nothing replicates the sound and smell of real wood. These builds are detailed around airflow, ember containment, and the working room needed to load, tend, and eventually clear out a genuine wood fire safely. Hearth depth and ember containment are detailed properly.

Integrated Seating Walls

A curved low wall around a pit fixes seating permanently at the right distance. Caps land at comfortable sitting height and the radius is set so conversation works across the fire rather than around it. Cap width is set for comfortable sitting.

Commercial Courtyard Features

Amenity spaces use fire the same way restaurants do, to hold people in a space longer. Built for heavier use and easier oversight, these features suit managed communities and commercial gathering areas. Controls and shutoffs are placed where staff can reach them easily.

Speed of Use

Gas lights instantly and shuts off completely, which makes a spontaneous half hour outside realistic. Wood needs building, lighting, and tending, so it tends to become a planned evening rather than an impulse. That difference decides how often a feature actually gets lit.

Heat Output and Feel

A wood fire throws more radiant heat and holds a wider circle comfortably on a cold night. Gas output is steadier and adjustable, though it warms a smaller area and reads gentler to sit beside. Radiant reach is the real difference.

Cleanup and Upkeep

Ash removal, soot on stone, and firewood storage all come with burning wood. Gas leaves no ash at all, needing only occasional burner cleaning and a check that the media and ports remain clear. Storage for seasoned firewood also needs planning.

Smoke and Neighbors

Wood smoke drifts, and on closely spaced lots that becomes a genuine consideration. Gas produces almost none, which is often the deciding factor in denser neighborhoods or on covered and partly enclosed terraces. Prevailing wind direction is worth checking before deciding.

Construction Requirements

Gas needs supply routing, an accessible shutoff, and tested connections before the feature is closed up. Wood needs airflow and ember containment. Each drives different framing, so the choice is settled before excavation. Neither is difficult, but neither can be added afterward cheaply.

Long-Term Running Cost

Firewood is bought by the season and stored somewhere dry. Gas draws on an existing supply or refilled tanks. Which works out cheaper depends far more on how often you light it than on fuel price. Occasional users usually favor gas.

The Spot Where Evenings Actually Get Longer

Placement is half the value. A fire feature set too close to the house pushes smoke back under the eaves, and one set too far out never gets used on a cool night. We position pits at the center of terrace seating, build fireplaces against a wall to anchor a room-like corner, and set features into commercial courtyards across Fort Mill and Lake Wylie in South Carolina and Charlotte, Davidson, and Huntersville in North Carolina. Prevailing wind, sight lines, and clearance decide the location together.
